Laxmi Dongol represents the Academy’s emerging generation — a driven undergraduate whose passion for cultural exchange and language learning has already made her one of the most active youth members in the organization’s recent history.
A Young Voice for Cultural Bridge-Building
Currently in her third year of a bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Tribhuvan University, Ms. Dongol became interested in Nepal-China relations through a Mandarin language course she enrolled in during her first semester. What began as curiosity about Chinese characters quickly deepened into a commitment to understanding the cultural and political dynamics that connect the two nations.
She enrolled in the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University for supplementary Mandarin instruction and has achieved HSK Level 3 certification. Her goal is to pursue a master’s degree in comparative politics with a focus on South Asia-East Asia relations, ideally through one of the scholarship programs the Academy promotes.

Youth Wing Activities
As a coordinator within the Academy’s Youth Wing, Ms. Dongol has helped organize several programs designed to engage young Nepalis in bilateral cultural exchange. She was the lead student coordinator for the 2024 Chinese New Year celebration held at Basantapur Durbar Square, which drew over three hundred attendees and featured calligraphy demonstrations, traditional Chinese music, and a Nepali-Chinese fusion cooking showcase.
- Student coordinator, Chinese New Year Celebration 2024
- Volunteer organizer, Mandarin Language Workshop series for university students
- Youth delegate, Nepal-China Friendship Youth Forum (Lhasa, 2023)
- Social media coordinator, Academy Youth Wing outreach campaigns
Looking Forward
Ms. Dongol is currently applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship program with the Academy’s support, hoping to spend two years at Fudan University studying international relations. She plans to return to Nepal after her studies to work in the field of cultural diplomacy, carrying forward the Academy’s mission through a perspective shaped by both academic rigor and grassroots engagement.
The Academy showed me that friendship between nations starts with curiosity — with a willingness to learn someone else’s language, taste their food, and listen to their stories.
